According to the Central Bank of Cyprus in 2010, because of high Foreign Domestic Investment (FDI) performance (as well as exemplary potential), Cyprus is ranked high among the financial forerunners of the world.
- In 2009, Cyprus’ top three FDI sectors were Financial Intermediation (58.13%), Trade and Repairs (23.68%) and Real Estate and Business Activities (15.73%).
- In 2010, Cyprus’ FDI amounted to €3.6 bn. It peaked in 2009 with a total of €4.1bn, growing from €2.8bn in 2008 and €1.6bn in 2007.
- Cyprus has the potential to attract even higher FDI with the long-term trend being positive.
- By geographical/economic zone, the leading sources of FDI to Cyprus in 2008 were: European Countries: over €2.4bn – America: €187.8m – Asia: €138.3m.
